NC: Please tell us about your family background.
I was born in Hindu family on 1960 at Kabre district, Panauti. I have my wife with three children one son and two daughters.
NC: How did you come into Christian life?
When I was in School about 6 or 7 classes, I was influenced by atheistic ideology. I had question of my life like, what is after death. What is the purpose of life? One day two people came to my school. They brought some Christian booklets. I bought two booklets of cost Rs. 25 for each. It was about 1972. I found many of the answer of my questions when I read it. There was one thing which was deeply touched and captured my heart. ‘Jesus died and risen from the death’. It was different than other. So, I started to think some thing is on it. By this curiosity I was correspondence with them, I got address of the NBCI (Nepal Bible Correspondence Institute). I was keeping in touch with them by sending mail, getting some more booklets. I got more booklets to provide for my friends at class. I did it for 4 years. During this period I got three certificates from operator office Kathmandu. In 1976, some people came from the office to my village and I accepted Jesus into my life.
NC: Did you get any persecution for believing Jesus?
At that time I think there were only 500 Christian all over the Nepal. I was first to believe Jesus in my village. All of my relatives and friends use to ask me why you are going to turn our religion. But I could manage those difficulties. I had a desire of further study in bile school because I had done basic course. And I got the opportunity for further bible study course in Bangalore India. It was for 4 years.
NC: Now you are working for NTC (Nepal Theological Collage), what is NTC doing?
NTC has been renamed again. Actually it was for Discipleships Training Center. It was started on 1978. So, it was the first bible school in Nepal. I was involving from the beginning with that. When I use to get vacation leave from my bible school in India, I had take part to teach bible class here. And when I finished the bible school from India in 1981.I came back to Nepal and continued to teach for NTC. The first session of finishing graduation class had only 5 students. Then after in 1997 I moved to another ministry. ICI (International Correspondence Institute) which was for preparing textbooks and course books for bible study. I was also teaching there and I was the chairman of that board.
NC: Why was NTC started?
NTC was for discipleships training in order to do three things to train youth, to encourage in the evangelism (sharing of good news) and third thing is to establish churches and provide them of needs. It is equipping the people in the Christian ministry. Now we have upgraded for 3 years study course. Then in between this period I also helped with the Rescue Nepal. It is a holistic ministry.
NC: As a principal of college what are your future plans for this NTC?
Training is very essential for the growth and maturity of the church. Training has to be there so because of that we have upgraded to BTH degree. Now have just 1st year course. We believe that we have to add 2nd and 3rd year courses in days to come. We also have diploma 1st year and 2nd year. We have 42 students. We will continue and in coming year we have a plan for more students studied here from all over the Nepal. Our BTH course is in English medium and diploma is in Nepali medium. My challenge is to develop the school, its library, other facilities and our school building has to be finished. And to mobilize the student to churches, ministry and making a link with the churches which is our vision. We don’t want to do for our self but the blessing for the churches.
NC: Why is it that many Christians are only involving in Christian ministries more than other jobs?
There are people involved in other jobs. But my understanding is to equip people holistically. That means Christian also to be socially and educational oriented. People who are in professional work even they should be biblically trained. That kind of learning about the bible and commitment to Christ and then by their work they will not be weak point. We should not divide that we have to bring together. Bible student should know what is happening in society so the holistic idea of mission has to be promoted.
NC: Tell us about the Rescue Nepal. What is your responsibility for it?
Rescue Nepal has now three programs. Community of evangelism, Literature, Education of HIV awareness program.
NC: How do you manage to spend time with your family?
I have grown up children. I get enough time to spend time with my family. Saturday I get time to go church with them. No any problem to manage time for my family.
NC: Are you involving with Church committee?
Yes, I was pastor for Shalom Church now has become a senior elder for the church. And a founder member of AG Nepal since it’s established on 1981.
NC: What are the characteristics needed to be a good Christian?
I think to be a good Christian; a person has to be born in holily sprit. Christian has to be learned the fruit of the sprit and the gift of the sprit which has to be balance to use. Prayer life and study about god’s words which are essential needs. It is every day exercises, so it is not the way like I am a Christian. And the next thing is to getting mature in this process. All these process has to be followed.
NC: What do you say for the children and youths of our nation as a responsible person?
Now new generation of Christian is coming, people born in Christian family. Unless they have been disciples, they have been given challenge of Christian life. Find something beneficial and good interest in life that we have to give them. We have to show them from the word of teaching. There is a wonderful life to be a Christian. If we do not give that part of life to our children and the youth, If we not challenging them and not to bringing them in maturity and not giving the vision of mission there will be a big communication gape of the distributed. Mission is people even working in different professions need to have a mission as a Christian in their work places. So, that only comes when person a mature. We can’t simply expect people just to become in weaknesses without they have been equipped. So, this the great challenge for Nepali churches. They have to invest the young people and train them up. Training is not easy. People may not like we have to do it. If we do that there will be very good future for Nepali churches but if we miss this generation, there will be a big generation gap. If the Old generation were not able to share about their generation of difficulties, persecution and frustration, the new generation will loose that motivation. And that gap wills going to very disturbed for the non Christian and others because they look at lives of the Christian. The Christ exemplified, they are not going to be attracted. So this is very crucial movement for the Nepali churches to really train up young people, have programs for young people, they need to be feel the sprite of god. They need to have desire for mission of god. They can be professional. There is nothing wrong to have a spiritual motivation and to do the professional job. And person can do that job better when the person come into the Christ. So I think that is the great challenge and Nepali church has to wake them and bring the young people to ministry of Christ which is the best thing in the world. It is not dream by the people who faith, people who is first class, people who is in distention only can do this. If they think it is only for the adventures. And people can’t make other things, which is very wrong. And they are undermining god’s ministry. So, we need people commuted brightly to understanding. And for that leadership has to play the role to take that challenge and train up people.
NC: what is the difference between faiths of Christianity during the past time and in current situation?
Christianity is growing and may be the earlier Christians got lots of precaution and difficulties. I mean the Christian faith doesn’t change. It has to be same as like to first century, now and tomorrow. But now people taking easily. That is the dangerous part. People need to know seriousness all the time. It is joyfulness in one side. The Christian of the past time, present and the future has same the same bible. Same kind of commitment has to be there. And there is some slacking which is one kind of coldness that they have to change and come back to life. The situation has made like the past Christian were great and present are week in faith in god. But if we do not teach, that will happen. If the discipleship and intensity of gospel discipleship is not made very strong then that happens. But that doesn’t mean that this generation can not do as like as past people did. They can do better. Because they have more ability, more resources and well educated. But that has to be correctly put on the track. The new generation has more challenges and more people here. In past time we thought for 5 student but you see now a days we have to manage 500 students. The capability has become higher but the commitment has to come there. Today the new generation can do the thing but they have to driven in right track.
